High quality healthcare

A further revelation at Reform’s High Quality Healthcare conference came from NHS Confederation chief executive Mike Farrar – the down-to-earth face of NHS senior leadership – in an elegant metaphor about choice and price competition.
Sitting alongside Monitor chair David Bennett, who cuts a more refined image befitting the regulator’s slick reputation, Mr Farrar explained that the public were used to choice on some matters – such as clothes shopping. “Some go to Primark, which is where most of my clothes are from, as opposed to David, who chooses to go through the doors of Hugo Boss”, he explained.
While Mr Bennett is obviously getting his image right, Monitor is still grappling with the dilemmas of competition on price highlighted by his fellow panel member.
